Gamma ray constraints on Decaying Dark Matter
We derive new bounds on decaying Dark Matter from the gamma ray measurements of (i) the isotropic residual (extragalactic) background by Fermi and (ii) the Fornax galaxy cluster by H.E.S.S.. We find that those from (i) are among the most stringent constraints currently available, for a large range of DM masses and a variety of decay modes, excluding half-lives up to ∼ 1026 to few 1027 seconds. ...
متن کاملGamma-ray Signatures of Dark Matter Particles
Indirect detection methods of dark matter particles are discussed. In particular, detection of supersymmetric dark matter through annihilation into gamma-rays is described. Aspects of the density structure of dark matter halos, important for estimating the chances of detection, are discussed. A new class of dark matter candidates, related to non-vanishing neutrinos masses and seemingly only det...
متن کاملGamma Ray Astronomy and Baryonic Dark Matter
Recently, Dixon et al. (1998) have re-analyzed the EGRET data, finding a statistically significant diffuse γ-ray emission from the galactic halo. We show that this emission can naturally be explained within a previously-proposed model for baryonic dark matter, in which γ-rays are produced through the interaction of high-energy cosmic-ray protons with cold H2 clouds clumped into dark clusters th...
متن کاملConstraints on Cold Dark Matter in the Gamma - ray Halo of NGC 253
A gamma-ray halo in a nearby starburst galaxy NGC 253 was found by the CANGAROO-II Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT). By fitting the energy spectrum with expected curves from Cold Dark Matter (CDM) annihilations, we constrain the CDM-annihilation rate in the halo of NGC 253. Upper limits for the CDM density were obtained in the wide mass range between 0.5 and 50 TeV. Although these...
متن کاملConstraints on Dark Matter with Gamma-Ray Experiments and Future Observational Strategies
Indirect dark matter (DM) searches rely on detection of stable by-products of DM interactions to search for a signal of this elusive component of the Universe. Among these final products, gamma rays have recently played a major role in understanding the nature of the DM particle. We review the current status of indirect DM searches with gamma-ray observations and prospects with future instruments.
