Gamma-radiation sky maps from compact binaries

Abstract We study sky maps and light curves of gamma-ray emission from neutron stars in compact binaries, isolation. briefly review some models, reproduce a standard isolated pulsar the Separatrix Layer model. consider pulsars with several variations dipole magnetic field, including superpositions, predict their emission. Our results provide new heuristics on what can cannot be inferred about field configuration high-energy observations. find that typical double-peak produced by significant multipole structure beyond single dipole. For binary systems, we also present simple approximation is useful for rapid explorations structure. Finally, pattern black hole-neutron star moments before merger applying model to data simulated full general relativity; face-on observers receive little emission, equatorial see one broad peak, more generic typically two peaks.
