Future sea-level rise projections for tide gauge locations in South Asia

چکیده

Abstract Local projections of future sea-level change are important for understanding climate risks and informing coastal management decisions. Reliable relevant risk information is especially in South Asia, where large populations live low-lying areas at from inundation. We present a new set local selected tide gauge locations Asia. The used to explore the drivers spatial variations Asia over 21st century under RCP2.6 RCP8.5 scenarios. Global rise 2081–2100 projected be 0.39 m (0.26–0.58 m) 0.65 (0.47 m–0.93m) respectively. same period vary spatially region, with excess global equatorial Indian Ocean but less than northern Arabian Sea Bay Bengal. 0.44 (0.29–0.67 0.72 (0.51–1.06 Gan II (Maldives) respectively, whereas Diamond Harbour (West Bengal) corresponding changes 0.32 (0.19–0.51 0.57 (0.39–0.85m). find that sterodynamic contribution generally leading driver any single location, groundwater extraction sub-continent landmass main across region. localised quantify enhance potential feed into decisions planning by communities, government, industry.

Modeling regional sea level rise using local tide gauge data

Currently regional mean sea level trends and variations are inferred from the analysis of several individual local tide gauge data that span only a long period of time at a given region. In this study, we propose using amodel to merge various tide gauge data, regardless of their time span, in a single solution, to estimate parameters representative of regional mean sea level trends. The propose...

The Impact of Uncertainties in Ice Sheet Dynamics on Sea-Level Allowances at Tide Gauge Locations

Sea level is projected to rise in the coming centuries as a result of a changing climate. One of the major uncertainties is the projected contribution of the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica to sea-level rise (SLR). Here, we study the impact of different shapes of uncertainty distributions of the ice sheets on so-called sea-level allowances. An allowance indicates the height a coastal str...

Are Long Tide Gauge Records in the Wrong Place to Measure Global Mean Sea Level Rise?

Ocean dynamics, land motion, and changes in Earth’s gravitational and rotational fields cause local sea level change to deviate from the rate of global mean sea level rise. Here we use observations and simulations of spatial structure in sea level change to estimate the likelihood that these processes cause sea level trends in the longest and highest-quality tide gauge records to be systematica...

Probabilistic 21st and 22nd century sea-level projections at a global network of tide gauge sites

Sea-level rise due to both climate change and non-climatic factors threatens coastal settlements, infrastructure and ecosystems. Projections of mean global sea level (GSL) rise provide insufficient information to plan adaptive responses; local decisions require local projections that accommodate different risk tolerances and time frames and that can be linked to storm surge projections. Here we...

A Gnss-based Tide Gauge for Local Sea Level Monitoring

It is important for human society to continuously monitor the sea level, since more than 50% of the world’s population live within 60 km of the coast [1]. Moreover, global climate change is believed to result in the melting of large masses of ice in Polar Regions. This will bring freshwater into the ocean [2] and thus change the sea level [3]. The traditional way to observe sea level is with ti...
