Future responses to environment-related food self-insufficiency, from local to global

چکیده
Abstract In the coming decades, communities may become exposed to local food self-insufficiency due climate change, land degradation and scarcity. Rapid population growth exacerbate this. To support mitigating policies, answers are needed following two research questions: (i) Where what extent will environment-related occur or increase over period from 2015 2050 (ii) How respond increased self-insufficiency? Potential responses agricultural expansion, intensification, import, migration, starvation violent conflict. Answering these questions is hampered for different reasons. A persistent debate ongoing on whether environmentally induced deficit cause migration conflict at all. Although a clear relationship assumed as self-evident by many scholars politicians, yet no convincing evidence has been found, in contrast relevance of socioeconomic factors. Moreover, lack consistent accurate data supply demand hampers mapping present future. this article, we explore difficulties find between deficit, conflict, propose test an operational methodology that does provide preliminary necessary conditions approach . The results presented maps tables plausible 2050. Over period, roughly doubles well number people living favour starvation, mostly caused significant one hand—hence side—and stagnating even slightly declining production other. contrast, self-sufficiency stays high constant global scale.

In reasoning tasks involving the maintenance of consistent databases (so called "constraint net works") it is customary to enforce local consistency conditions in order to simplify the construc tion of a globally coherent model of the data. In this paper we present a relationship between the sizes of the variables' domains and the level of local consistency sufficient to ensure global con si...

متن کاملUnderstanding food-web persistence from local to global scales.
Understanding food-web persistence is an important long-term objective of ecology because of its relevance in maintaining biodiversity. To date, many dynamic studies of food-web behaviour--both empirical and theoretical--have focused on smaller sub-webs, called trophic modules, because these modules are more tractable experimentally and analytically than whole food webs. The question remains to...

In this paper we present a method by which to organize the interactions of autonomous assembly agents in Intelligent Self-Assembly (ISA). Each assembly agent has limited and local sensing and local rule-based control. A Transition Rule Set (TRS) Compiler is presented which takes a desired goal structure as input and gives as output a set of rules. When each assembly agent utilizes these rules, ...
