چکیده
Abstract In this article, we take into consideration two semantics of the future tense: linearism, according to which future-tense sentences are interpreted on a single history, and universalism, they evaluated by universally quantifying plurality histories that radiate from present instant. Specifically, focus objection advanced against universalism: if universalism were correct will , negated natural language should have readings, depending scope negation with respect universal quantifier histories. However, since does not show difference, one may conclude there is no in interpretation these sentences. We conclusion premature. First, has clear interactions indefinite nouns phrases, contrary what linearism predicts. Second, it possible extend treatment vague predicates as partial : Since negation, can account for scopelessness . The partiality truth conditions restricted but also pertains counterfactuals generics probably part general tendency maximize contraries.

Predicate-term negation and the indeterminacy of the future
This essay introduces a formal structure to model the indeterminacy of the future in EinsteinMinkowski space-time. We consider a first-order language, supplemented with an operator for predicate-term negation, and defend the claim that such an operation provides an appropriate model for the indeterminacy of future contingents. In the final section, it is proved that given a language otherwise a...
متن کاملNegation and Double-Negation of Chinese Oppositeness
Oppositeness refers to the paradigmatic relationship of two words holding the contrast meanings. The fact that linguistic opposite differs from logical contrast has been discussed in theories, but has not been tested in practice. In this paper, we investigate three main subtypes of Chinese oppositeness, via using logical tests of negation and double-negation. Result shows that purely logical te...

This paper deals with logic programs containing two kinds of negation: negation as failure and explicit negation, allowing two diierent forms of uncertainty reasoning in the presence of incomplete information. Such programs have been introduced by Gelfond and Lifschitz and called extended programs. We provide them with a logical semantics in the style of Kunen, based on Belnap's four-valued log...
متن کاملNegation Without Negation in Probabilistic Logic Programming
Probabilistic logic programs without negation can have cycles (with a preference for false), but cannot represent all conditional distributions. Probabilistic logic programs with negation can represent arbitrary conditional probabilities, but with cycles they create logical inconsistencies. We show how allowing negative noise probabilities allows us to represent arbitrary conditional probabilit...
