چکیده

Tooling in the die and mould industry is subjected to high-wear high-temperature environments, which often leads premature failure of this high-added-value tooling. When severe damage occurs, an alternative replacing whole component consists repair by laser-directed energy deposition (L-DED). For that end, intermediate layers are commonly employed as buffer material, where introducing a functionally graded material (FGM) might be beneficial avoid incompatibilities improve overall performance In present work, FGM composed gradient AISI 316L H13 has been manufactured, its microstructure hardness analysed. Firstly, cracking owing formation brittle phases detected. Secondly, increase decrease corrosion resistance observed when transitioning from H13. Thirdly, despite composition evolving linearly, nonlinear properties such have observed, conditioned formed during L‑DED process influence steel on properties. Consequently, compositional gradients recommended if linear mechanical obtained case FGMs.

Friction-corrosion of AISI 316L/bone cement and AISI 316L/PMMA contacts : ionic strength effect on tribological behaviour

Wear phenomena understanding of implants is a challenge: friction-corrosion of biomaterials, which constitute orthopaedic implants, is a significant issue concerning the aseptic loosening. This work aims at studying AISI 316L/bone cement friction which is a tribological problem related to hip joint cemented prostheses. This study focuses on the ionic strength effect on the tribological behaviou...

Corrosion and microstructural analysis data for AISI 316L and AISI 347H stainless steels after exposure to a supercritical water environment.

This article presents corrosion data and microstructural analysis data of austenitic stainless steels AISI 316L and AISI 347H exposed to supercritical water (25 MPa, 550 °C) with 2000 ppb of dissolved oxygen. The corrosion tests lasted a total of 1200 h but were interrupted at 600 h to allow measurements to be made. The microstructural data have been collected in the grain interior and at grain...

Mechanical Properties of Boronized AISI 316, AISI 1040, AISI 1045 and AISI 4140 Steels

In this study, some mechanical properties of borided and unborided four steels were investigated. Boronizing of steels was performed by powder pack method at 1210 K for 4 h. The hardness of borides, boride layer thickness and room temperature tensile properties were measured and it was observed that hardness and tensile properties strongly depend on chemical composition of steels. In addition, ...

Biomaterial Studies on AISI 316L Stainless Steel after Magnetoelectropolishing

The polarisation characteristics of the electropolishing process in a magnetic field (MEP – magnetoelectropolishing), in comparison with those obtained under standard/conventional process (EP) conditions, have been obtained. The occurrence of an EP plateau has been observed in view of the optimization of MEP process. Up-to-date stainless steel surface studies always indicated some amount of fre...

Corrosion and Hardness Behaviour of AISI 316L SS Implanted with Argon and Oxygen Ions Korózne a pevnostné vlastnosti AISI 316L SS pri implantácii iónmi argónu a kyslíka

Ion implantation creates alterations in surface properties of solids such as corrosion and hardness. The AISI316L stainless steel is being widely used both in artificial knee and hip joints in bio-medical applications. In the present study, the AISI316L SS was implanted with two different ions namely argon and oxygen separately at 100 KeV with a dose of 1x10ions/cm2 at the temperature of 32°C. ...
