Functional responses of aggregate‐colonizing copepods

چکیده
Zooplankton consumption of aggregates, such as marine snow, is an important factor in determining the efficiency biological carbon pump. However, feeding rates aggregate-associated small harpacticoid and poecilostomatoid copepods are largely unknown, factors that influence these rates. We measured functional responses pellet production (PP) aggregate-feeding on appendicularian houses, algal detrital Trichodesmium spp. tufts. The PP all increased with increasing aggregate concentrations, but response varied depending type. pelagic copepod Microsetella norvegica had highest while Oncaea benthic Amonardia normanni were houses. ingestion M. typically 0.04–0.13 μg C ind.−1 d−1, exception ca. three times higher houses 10 aggregates. larger species, A. normanni, generally higher, 0.3–1.3 d−1 even 10-fold Our results suggest degradation by can vary many-fold quality (origin) species. This have large consequences for attenuation vertical flux.

متن کاملthe effect of functional/notional approach on the proficiency level of efl learners and its evaluation through functional test
in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...

The relationship between growth rate and food concentration often differs between nauplii and copepodites of the same species, but the nature of these relationships varies between systems and species. The artificial cohort method was used to calculate growth rates of Acartia hudsonica and Eurytemora herdmani nauplii and copepodites in Passamaquoddy Bay, the Bay of Fundy, under a natural range o...
متن کاملSpace race functional responses.
We derive functional responses under the assumption that predators and prey are engaged in a space race in which prey avoid patches with many predators and predators avoid patches with few or no prey. The resulting functional response models have a simple structure and include functions describing how the emigration of prey and predators depend on interspecific densities. As such, they provide ...
