چکیده
The aim of this paper is twofold: to establish the structure deverbal nominals in -nie and -cie which lack argument function as Simple Event Result nominals, specify factors conditioning their emergence. proposed analysis framed Borer’s exo-skeletal model supplemented by elements nanosyntactic approach. Polish data are puzzling since R-nominals -nie/-cie show morphological evidence verbalising layer guise a theme element alongside aspectual marking. account includes projection inner aspect argues that licensing internal not related presence morphology or projection, case can be multi-layered.. For an R-nominal emerge, must contain viewpoint responsible for full argumental complex. VP accounts ambiguity between simple event concrete reading. A stem-based will arise if there no root-based R-nominal, e.g. (s)kaleczyć ‘hurt’ —*(s)kalecz—skaleczenie ‘wound’ vs. (po)dzielić ‘divide’—podział ‘division’. Only possible where overt verbaliser with root merged nominal adjectival functor blocks formation łysy ‘bald’—(wy)łysieć ‘go bald’—wyłysienie ‘a bald patch’—*(wy)łys.

Definiteness and Eventive Nominals
This paper discusses the interpretation of complex noun phrases. More specifically, it investigates the type of object that a noun phrase 1 denotes. It has been recognized for some time that noun phrases must be able to denote individuals in some circumstances, events in other cases, propositions in still others (Zucchi 1993, Peterson 1997). I will show that, on the one hand, there are various ...
متن کاملBasque Functional Heads
Bill Haddican NYU 6/18/2001 0. Introduction This paper makes three claims about Basque grammar. First, it argues that Cinque’s (1999) hierarchy of functional heads largely holds for Basque. In a typical pattern, lower morphemes in the hierarchy appear in the reverse order, while higher morphemes appear in Cinque’s order. This is explained through roll-up—iterative XP movement through specifier ...
متن کاملthe effect of functional/notional approach on the proficiency level of efl learners and its evaluation through functional test
in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...
15 صفحه اولMono-eventive Verbs of Emission and their bi-eventive nominalizations∗
In languages like German or Dutch, the distinction between unergative and unaccusative verbs is borne out by a number of syntactic tests. Unergative verbs appear in impersonal passives while unaccusative verbs do not (cf. Perlmutter (1978)). Unergative verbs select the perfect auxiliary haben/hebben (to have) while unaccusative verbs select sein/zijn (to be) (cf. Hoekstra (1984)). Unaccusative ...
متن کاملVisual Semantics and Ontology of Eventive Verbs
Various English verb classifications have been analyzed in terms of their syntactic and semantic properties, and conceptual components, such as syntactic valency, lexical semantics, and semantic/syntactic correlations. Here the visual semantics of verbs, particularly their visual roles, somatotopic effectors, and level-of-detail, is studied. We introduce the notion of visual valency and use it ...
