چکیده

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are a major threat to global public health, and there is an urgent need find effective, antimicrobial treatments that can be well tolerated by humans. Hornet venom known have properties, contains peptides with similarity eptides (AMPs), mastoparans. We identified multiple new AMPs from the glands of Vespa ducalis (U-VVTX-Vm1a, U-VVTX-Vm1b, U-VVTX-Vm1c), mandarinia (U-VVTX-Vm1d), affinis (U-VVTX-Vm1e). All these highly similar sequences related toxic peptide, mastoparan. Our newly α-helical structures, amphiphilic, properties. Both U-VVTX-Vm1b U-VVTX-Vm1e killed bacteria, Staphylococcus aure us ATCC25923 Escherichia coli ATCC25922, at concentrations 16 μg/mL 32 μg/mL, respectively. None five exhibited strong toxicity as measured via their hemolytic activity on red blood cells. was able increase permeability E. ATCC25922 degrade its genomic DNA. These results promising, demonstrate value investigating hornet treatment, add growing arsenal such naturally derived treatments. • Five mastoparan venom. excellent antibacterial effect against aureus coli. showed membrane rupture mechanism low activities.

Structure and biological activities of a new mastoparan isolated from the venom of the hornet Vespa basalis.

By gel filtration on a Fractogel TSK HW 50 column followed by cation-exchange chromatography on CM-Trisacryl M, a tetradecapeptide amide, designated 'mastoparan B', was purified from the venom of the hornet Vespa basalis. Its amino acid sequence was determined as: Leu-Lys-Leu-Lys-Ser-Ile-Val-Ser-Trp-Ala-Lys-Lys-Val-Leu-NH2 and its molecular mass was measured to be 1611 Da by fast-atom-bombardme...

Severe multi-organ dysfunction following multiple wasp (Vespa affinis) stings.

Ceylon Medical Journal The wasp (Vespa affinis) is common and widely distributed in Sri Lanka. Wasp venom is known to contain factors that release histamine, enzymes, haemolysins, neurotoxins and vasodilators [1]. Case reports with severe multi-organ dysfunction after wasp stings are few in literature. We report two patients who developed severe multi-organ dysfunction following multiple wasp b...

Purification and Characterization of Two New Allergens from the Venom of Vespa magnifica

Due to poor diagnostic facilities and a lack of medical alertness, allergy to Vespa wasps may be underestimated. Few allergens have been identified from Vespa wasps.Possible native allergen proteins were purified from the wasp venoms (WV) (Vespa magnifica Smith) by gel filtration, ion exchange chromatography, respectively. Their sequences were determined by Edman degradation and cDNA cloning. T...

Poison and alarm: the Asian hornet Vespa velutina uses sting venom volatiles as an alarm pheromone.

In colonial organisms, alarm pheromones can provide a key fitness advantage by enhancing colony defence and warning of danger. Learning which species use alarm pheromone and the key compounds involved therefore enhances our understanding of how this important signal has evolved. However, our knowledge of alarm pheromones is more limited in the social wasps and hornets compared with the social b...
