Fully 3D‐Printed Cuff Electrode for Small Nerve Interfacing

چکیده
Interfacing with the peripheral nervous system is a powerful method for diagnosing and treating several diseases, such as drug-resistant epilepsy depression. In most clinical applications, large nerves vagus hypoglossal nerve are targeted. Large carry multiple fibers, maintaining selectivity of specific target response demands complex stimulation strategies. As trunks bifurcate toward their distal ends, diameter number comprised fibers reduce. Consequently, interfacing small can provide increased fiber selectivity. However, size presents challenges to fabrication implantation suitable electrodes due fragility constrained environments. Here, cuff electrode that combines two-photon stereolithography 3D inkjet printing techniques selective in vivo introduced. The device easy implant, its be tailored dimensions. Its capability record selectively stimulate demonstrated by targeting locust's hind leg nerve.

Micromachined Multichannel Cuff ' Electrodes for Interfacing Small Nerves
Cuff electrodes are often used for interfacing nerves. Especially for small nerves, a new approach of flexible and light-weighted multichannel cuff electrodes with integrated cables has been developed using micro-chining technologies. Here, the process technology is shortly introduced. The results of in vitro test were discussed. In vivo implantations showed excellent properties of the electrod...
متن کاملWhole Nerve Recordings with the Spiral Nerve Cuff Electrode
The feasibility of whole nerve recordings from the hypoglossal (HG) nerve is demonstrated in acute cats using the spiral nerve cuff electrode. A good contact between the nerve and the electrodes, provided by the spiral nerve cuff due to its self-coiling property, should improve the signal-tonoise ratio. An instrumentation amplifier with very low input noise characteristics is also utilized. The...
متن کاملSpiral nerve cuff electrode for recordings of respiratory output.
The feasibility of using the spiral nerve cuff electrode design for recordings of respiratory output from the hypoglossal (HG) and phrenic nerves is demonstrated in anesthetized, paralyzed, and artificially ventilated cats. Raw neural discharges of the HG nerve were analyzed in terms of signal-to-noise ratios and frequency spectra. The rectified and integrated moving average activity of the HG ...
متن کاملA simple cuff electrode for nerve recording and stimulation in acute experiments on small animals.
We describe a cuff-type electrode specifically designed for recording from, and electrical stimulation of, cut nerves in acute experiments on small animals. Unlike existing designs of cuff electrodes, it is simple to manufacture, inexpensive and takes little time to implant. The electrode was tested on the hypoglossal, phrenic, recurrent laryngeal, and superior laryngeal nerves in anesthetized ...
متن کاملInterference reduction in nerve cuff electrode recordings-a new approach
A method is presented to reduce the interference pickup in nerve cuff recordings. The g,ains of differential amplifiers connected to the true tripole nerve cuff arrangement are tuned adaptively to null the residual EMG. Simulation results show that extraction of the neural signal is possible using this method without the need for high order filtering.
