Fuel flexibility of solid oxide fuel cells

One of the major advantages SOFCs is their high fuel flexibility. Next to natural gas and hydrogen, which are today's most common fuels for SOFC-systems cell-/stack-testing respectively, various other applicable as well. In literature, a number promising results show that available propane, butane, ammonia, gasoline, diesel etc. can be applied. Here, performance an anode supported cell operated in specialized single test benches with different gaseous liquid reformates thereof presented. Fuels dissolved urea (AddBlueTM), methane/steam ethanol/water mixtures directly fed cell, whereas propane require external reforming. It shown case stable supply such similar appropriate H2, N2, CO, CO2, steam, if impact endothermic reforming or decomposition reactions considered. Even though operation possible bench, it should pointed out processing will mandatory on system level.
