From thin objects to thin concepts?

چکیده
In this short paper we consider Linnebo's thin/thick dichotomy: first, show that it does not overlap with the very common one between abstract/concrete objects; second, on basis of some difficulties distinction, propose, as a possible way out, to move from objects concepts.

Interactive Cutting of Thin Deformable Objects
Simulation of cutting is essential for many applications such as virtual surgical training. Most existing methods use the same triangle mesh for both visualization and collision handling, although the requirements for them in the interactive simulation are different. We introduce visual-collision binding between high-resolution visual meshes and low-resolution collision meshes, and thus extend ...
متن کاملBending Models for Thin Flexible Objects
Textiles usually exhibit much larger resistance to in-plane deformation than to bending deformation. However, the latter essentially determines the formation of folds and wrinkles which in turn govern the overall appearance of the cloth. The resulting numerical problem is inherently stiff and hence susceptible to instability. This overview is devoted to a closer investigation of bending deforma...
متن کاملModeling and grasping of thin deformable objects
Deformable modeling of thin shell-like and other objects have potential application in robot grasping, medical robotics, home robots, and so on. The ability to manipulate electrical and optical cables, rubber toys, plastic bottles, ropes, biological tissues, and organs is an important feature of robot intelligence. However, grasping of deformable objects has remained an underdeveloped research ...
متن کاملBinary Restoration of Thin Objects in
We present a method for restoration of noisy tomographic images for detecting thin objects, such as explosives. Use of a weighted mean-square estimate optimizes the solution to place emphasis on the infrequent, but signiicant local structure associated with thin objects. Experimental results show successful restoration at very high noise levels.
متن کاملGrasp planning for thin-walled deformable objects
In this work, we consider the challenge of grasping thinwalled deformable objects like plastic bottles and other containers, which are very common in household environments. The deformability of such objects varies considerably along their surface, depending on the local geometry. To consider such phenomenon, we propose a grasp planner, which first uses the Finite Element Method (FEM) for defor...
