From controversy to complexity

Abstract A replication of previous research, this study sets out to re-examine language choice in note-taking for consecutive conference interpreting – a topic that is widely believed be subject conflicting evidence. Extending the existing database considerably, draws on data from seven different tasks involving five languages and both directions (B into B) performed by ten participants with combinations. Interpreters’ notes these performances served as main study, which was complemented questionnaire form mixed-methods design. Analyses interpreters’ identified far strongest determinant choice, above beyond other categories; confirmed results replicated research. The data, however, did not mirror patterns found consistently, suggesting complex interplay behavior norms. article concludes discussion findings, arguing reframed one complexity rather than contradiction.
