Friction Laws for Saturated/Unsaturated Fatty Acid Layers

چکیده
The presence or absence of unsaturation in the carbon chain carboxylic acids was examined on friction response boundary films according to normal force. Friction laws were established as a function force at nanoscale with molecular tribometer derived from surface apparatus. While shear plane is mainly composed methyl groups all cases investigated, organization differs within plane, suggested by simultaneous film thickness evolution. This gave rise dissipation modes interface, resulting wide range stress levels and dependence contact pressure. discussed, highlighting combined role nanometric roughness molecule unsaturation. for stearic acid ( ), elaidic oleic ) layers schematic diagrams corresponding sheared interfaces

Friction Laws for Elastic Nano-Scale Contacts
– The effect of surface curvature on the law relating frictional forces F with normal load L is investigated by molecular dynamics simulations as a function of surface symmetry, adhesion, and contamination. Curved, non-adhering, dry, commensurate surfaces show a linear dependency, F ∝ L, similar to dry flat commensurate or amorphous surfaces and macroscopic surfaces. In contrast, curved, non-ad...
متن کاملSimple microscopic theory of Amontons's laws for static friction.
A microscopic theory for the ubiquitous phenomenon of static friction is presented. Interactions between two surfaces are modeled by an energy penalty that increases exponentially with the degree of surface overlap. The resulting static friction is proportional to load, in accordance with Amontons's laws. However, the friction coefficient between bare surfaces vanishes as the area of individual...

متن کاملA Method for Estimating Wall Friction in Turbulent Boundary Layers
We describe a simple method for estimating wall friction which uses the fit of velocity data to the boundary layer profile in wall units all the way from the wall to the end of the log region. Two different models for the boundary layer profile are examined, the power-series interpolation scheme of Spalding and the Musker profile which is based on the eddy viscosity concept. The accuracy of the...
متن کاملStatic Friction, Healing, and Constitutive Laws for Time- and Slip-dependent Friction
I summarize laboratory friction experiments on quartz powder sheared at room temperature and humidity. Slide-hold-slide experiments indicate that static friction and related parameters vary systematically with both hold time and loading velocity. The data indicate that healing is closely related to gouge porosity and that static friction and healing are not simple friction parameters, but rathe...
