Fretting Fatigue In-service Failure of X20CrMo13 Stainless Steel Turbine Blade

The turbine blades play a crucial role in the efficiency of steam turbines system, which can also lead to safety and economic implications catastrophic failure. propagation fatigue cracks is relevant issue, especially if there are issues involving human life or environment significant losses. This work investigated failure blade 25 MW cogeneration power plant. One found several deformation marks debris primary crack origin at blade's base. They were responsible for fretting type wear. material matches composition X20CrMo13 steel; however, hardness shows higher average value (250±4.7) than typical standard values 220–240 HB.
