چکیده

Abstract Samples of two commercial low-density polyethylene melts were investigated with respect to their fracture behavior in controlled uniaxial extensional flow at constant strain rate a filament stretching rheometer. In order assess the possible influence grain boundaries on fracture, samples prepared by three different types pre-treatment: compression molding (1) virgin pellets used as received, (2) homogenized twin-screw extruder, and (3) that milled into powder cryogenic grinding under liquid nitrogen. The elongational stress growth data analyzed Extended Hierarchical Multi-mode Molecular Stress Function (EHMMSF) model developed Wagner et al. (Rheol. Acta 61, 281-298 (2022)) for long-chain branched (LCB) polymer melts. EHMMSF quantifies including maximum viscosity LDPE based solely linear-viscoelastic relaxation spectrum nonlinear material parameters, dilution modulus G D characteristic stretch parameter $${\overline{\lambda}}_m$$ λ ¯ m . Within experimental accuracy, predictions are excellent agreement melts, independent preparation method used. At sufficiently high rates, filaments was observed is general accordance entropic criterion implemented model. High-speed videography reveals preceded parabolic crack opening, which elastic has been earlier monodisperse polystyrene solutions. Here, first time, we demonstrate appearance opening process polydisperse

Thermal-insulation performance of low density polyethylene (LDPE) foams: Comparison between two radiation thermal conductivity models

The loss of energy especially in industrial and residential buildings is one of the main reasons of increased energy consumption. Improving the thermal insulation properties of materials is a fundamental method for reducing the energy losses. Polymeric foams are introduced as materials with excellent thermal insulation properties for this purpose. In the present study, a deep theoretical invest...

Grafting of Acrylamide to Low Density Polyethylene During Melt Processing

Acrylamide was grafted in low density polyethylene during melt processing in the presence of a free radical initiator using a torque rheometer in a closed system. Effects of processing time, acrylamide and benzoyl peroxide concentrations were studied. FTIR studies revealed that the degree of grafting increased by an increase in acrylamide concentration. Maximum grafting was obtained at 7 mi...

Elongational Viscosity of Monodisperse and Bidisperse Polystyrene Melts

The startup and steady uniaxial elongational viscosity have been measured for two monodisperse polystyrene melts with molecular weights of 52 kg/mole and 103 kg/mole, and for three bidisperse polystyrene melts. The monodisperse melts show a maximum in the steady elongational viscosity vs. the elongational rate, ǫ̇, of about two times 3η0 whereas the bidisperse melts have a maximum of up to a fac...
