چکیده
This article takes as its broad premise two related questions: how does Ulysses register the animal labour from which modernity was produced? And, in turn, do Joyce’s textual innovations—his labouring of language—respond to human-animal relationships that existed early-twentieth-century Ireland? Although critics are increasingly attuned way is a novel teems with all sorts life, less attention has been paid working animals whose presence would have part everyday life; who present on pages form draught horses and dairy cows, among others. Focusing predominantly figure horse, species played central role production modern city perhaps most frequently represented other than human, this will examine alertness multispecies history Irish modernity. Moreover, by looking at formal innovations through Joyce presents his equine figures—through, for instance, an instability focalisation material conditions—I argue subjectivity both humans nonhumans produced moments affective entanglement. Highlighting trans-species empathy we find registered text’s language, such Bloom’s encounter sweeper horse ‘Eumaeus’ I take my title, outline integral task presenting fabric modernity, demonstrates ethical possibilities and, just importantly, limitations come acknowledging fact.

Gene expression profile in labouring and non-labouring human placenta near term.
The duration of pregnancy and initiation of labour are thought to be controlled by fetal, maternal and placental factors. The aim of this study was to investigate whether labour influences gene expression in placenta near term. Placental samples were obtained from 27 women after vaginal delivery (labouring) and 17 women after elective Caesarean section (non-labouring). All women were Caucasian ...
متن کاملTranscription Analysis of the Myometrium of Labouring and Non-Labouring Women
An incomplete understanding of the molecular mechanisms that initiate normal human labour at term seriously hampers the development of effective ways to predict, prevent and treat disorders such as preterm labour. Appropriate analysis of large microarray experiments that compare gene expression in non-labouring and labouring gestational tissues is necessary to help bridge these gaps in our know...
متن کاملEat, drink, and be labouring?
The practice of restricting oral intake during labour has been and remains controversial. Overall, the nutritional needs of labouring women are poorly understood. This literature review reveals that little evidence exists to support the general restriction of oral intake for all labouring women. Education of health professionals and pregnant women regarding intake in labour is required to encou...
متن کاملCurrent sheets from Ulysses observation
Current sheet is a significant source of solar wind MHD turbulence intermittency. It has long been recognized that these structures can arise from non-linear interactions of MHD turbulence. Alternatively, they may also be relic structures in the solar wind that have a solar origin, e.g., magnetic walls of flux tubes that separate solar wind plasma into distinct parcels. Identifying these struct...
