Foundational Grounding and Creaturely Freedom

چکیده
Abstract According to classical theism, the universe depends on God in a way that goes beyond mere (efficient) causation. I have previously argued this ‘deep dependence’ of is best understood as type grounding. In recent paper journal, Aaron Segal argues doctrine deep dependence causes problems for creaturely free will: if our choices are grounded facts about God, and we no control over these facts, then do not therefore free. This amounts grounding analogue Consequence Argument incompatibility will determinism. If successful, it would application theism: similar concerns apply any view takes be deeper reality which control. However, show argument successful. Segal’s Grounding so closely analogous Causal response one provides other. As result, you don’t think prior (whether deterministic or indeterministic) undermine will, shouldn’t grounds will.

Foundational Grounding and the Argument From Contingency∗
The argument from contingency for the existence of God is best understood as a request for an explanation of the total sequence of causes and effects in the universe (‘History’ for short). Many puzzles about how there could be such an explanation arise from the assumption that God is being introduced as one more cause prepended to the sequence of causes that (allegedly) needed explaining. In re...

متن کاملFoundational Justification
My theory is a version of foundationalism. Foundationalism says that there are certain beliefs, the so-called "foundational beliefs," which we are justified in holding and which do not depend on any other beliefs for their justification. Perceptual beliefs, in my view, are foundational. Notice that the definition of foundational beliefs does not say that they do not depend on anything else for ...
