چکیده
The Fortuna Forest Reserve and adjacent upland areas of the Palo Seco in western Panama support some most extensively studied lower premontane tropical forests world. are among diverse Central America therefore exceptional significance for preservation regional biodiversity. This volume brings together more than 50 years research on climate, geology, soils, major plant groups Fortuna. Spanning Continental Divide at around 1,000 m above sea level, parts reserve receive 6,000 mm annual rainfall, although there is considerable variation cloud cover seasonality. Soil fertility also varies markedly, reflecting complex volcanic geology. resulting gradients climate across shape composition, structure, diversity communities. A network 12 one-hectare plots contains 400 species trees greater 5 cm diameter breast height reveals extensive compositional turnover reserve. One tree species, Oreomunnea mexicana, forms monodominant stands otherwise species-rich forests, while extremely infertile soils dominated by canopy palm Colpothrinax aphanopetala include conifer Podocarpus oleifolius. There almost bryophytes, 300 ferns lycophytes, 31 palms, 80 bromeliads, 200 orchids. Many ectomycorrhizal fungi identified from fruiting bodies new to science. Overall, results highlight remarkable plants that occur montane extent which their communities structured soil fertility. chapters this provide a foundation further exploration fascinating region.

Geological Mapping of the Fortuna Tessera Quadrangle
Introduction: The Fortuna Tessera quadrangle (V–2, Fig. 1) is in the northern hemisphere of Venus and extends from 50° to 75° N. and from 0° to 60° E. In a regional context, this territory represents a large region of tessera terrain [1] that includes the major portion of Fortuna Tessera in the northern half of the map area and Laima Tessera in the SE corner of the quadrangle. The tessera regio...
متن کاملStructural evolution of western Fortuna Tessera, Venus
Western Fortuna Tessera, Ishtar Terra, records polyphase deformation. Structures include: ribbons forming long, narrow, steep-sided troughs that reflect surface layer extension; N-trending folds related to Maxwell Montes deformation; short, wide, NW-trending graben that reflect late local extension; and, within the southwestern map area, gentle, E-trending warps, which postdate ribbon structure...
متن کاملeffects of reserve management on woody and ground flora diversity (case study: chamhesar pear forest reserve)
forest reserves are one of the most important approaches in ecosystem management in iran. in order to determine the effects of reserve management on plants diversity (woody plants and ground flora) in three zones (core zone, buffer zone, and transmission zone of chamhesar pear forest reserve), we mapped land form units. then 18 main sampling units (20×50=1000 m2) distributed randomly were chose...
متن کاملA new species of Heliconia (Heliconiaceae) with pendent inflorescence, from Chucantí Private Nature Reserve, eastern Panama
Heliconia berguidoi (Heliconiaceae), a new species from premontane forest of eastern Panama, is described, illustrated and its conservation status evaluated. Heliconia berguidoi bears pink flowers, an uncommon color in this group. It differs from the Colombian species Heliconia rhodantha and Heliconia sanctae-theresae, the most similar taxa, by the combination of a petiole glabrous except for t...
متن کاملSustainable management of Kiyan forest reserve-Iran: An analysis of hierarchal process
Management of natural ecosystems, like forests, has several objectives such as wood production, sustainability of ecological systems, preserving aestheti,c and cultural or psychological satisfaction. This management is especially essential in dry regions with sensitive biodiversity, like Iran. The aim of this research is to elaborate a management scheme for developing a sustainable tourism plan...
