Formulation and Evaluation of Castor Oil Containing Self-emulsifying Pellets by Using Design of Experiment

Abstract: Background/Objectives: The objective of the study was to examine feasibility extrusion/ spheronization techniques for formulation castor oil loaded self-emulsifying pellets. also aimed at optimization pellet system with design experiments. Materials and Methods: Various surfactants co-surfactants were tested their ability emulsify oil. proportion components (castor oil, surfactant co-surfactant) in pellets optimized using a D-optimal mixture design. During optimization, effect composition oil(X1), surfactant(X2) cosurfactant(X3) blend on responses like dispersion time (Y1), resultant globule size (Y2) polydispersity index (Y3) studied. developed further extrusion technique. Results: application resulted 16 batches, out which batch consists (30.92%), Cremophore EL (58.56%) PEG 400(10.51%) having 53 sec, 242 nm 0.243 desirability value 1. All affected performance significantly. Free flowing obtained 30% loading. Conclusion: successfully containing can be used orally conditions arthritis or serve as carrier any drug herbal active.
