FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF BESIFLOXACIN NON-ERODIBLE OCULAR INSERTS

Objective: Ocular inserts offer many advantages over conventional dosage forms, like increased ocular residence, the possibility of releasing a drug at slow and constant rate, accurate dosing, exclusion preservatives, shelf life. Besifloxacin is very important for treatment infectious conjunctivitis. The present study was aimed to formulate evaluate Non-Erodible Insert using Pullulan polyvinyl pyrrolidone as reservoir, PEG 400 plasticizer, Eudragit RS-100 rate-controlling membrane. Methods: Central composite design employed effect independent variables, i.e., effects amount (X1) PVP (X2) on dependent % moisture absorption In vitro diffusion rate. After evaluation all thirteen batches insert reservoir formulation, BSF2 BSF4 were selected satisfactory formulation sandwiched between membrane, which made up (3 5%).
