Formulation and Antimicrobial Evaluation of A Novel Anti-Acne Herbal Hydrogel

Objective: The present study evaluates anti-microbial effect of hydrogel formulated with the extracts some indigenous drugs against Propionibacterium acne.
 Material and Method: Procured Manjishtha (Rubia Cordifolia L.), Shalmali (Salmalia malabarica (DC. Schott & Endl) Endl.), Daruharidra (Berberis aristate DC), Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller), Yashthimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra L). Extracts all except were collected by hydroalcoholic extraction using Soxhlet apparatus. Aqueous extract was drying method. Two types hydrogels prepared these drugs, one 5% other 10% extract. acne strains from CSIR-Imtech Chandigarh. Culturing bacteria done nutrient broth. Nutrient agar used for preparing culture media. antibacterial efficacy evaluated comparing them standard gentamycin. Result: showed an anti-bacterial effect, but it is comparatively less when compared Conclusion: gel has activity. hyrdogel better results than hydrogel.
