Forgotten: an autoethnographic exploration of belonging through Graphic Design

This article presents a practice-led artistic research project that asks: How to represent an international Chinese student’s sense of belonging (or not belonging) through the aesthetics visual poetry? The looked into concrete poetry as strategy develop design outcome consisting two publications using experimental typographic layout and corresponding posters. employs autoethnography heuristic inquiry methodological approach creative process achieve high levels originality. Based on personal experience, this explores lack faced by student in unfamiliar place when initially studying Aotearoa New Zealand. In response temporary loss belonging, investigated profiled individuals analyse specific negative emotions: restless lonely. addition, study applies poetic writing self-narrative enhance potential expression, metaphorically telling stories while creating artefact breaks with traditional written prose form. is retrospective self, graphically articulating unforgettable emotions arising from most profound periods affecting researcher.
