T Cell Interactions in the Foreign Body Response to Biomaterials
Synthetic biomaterials are considered to be non-immunogenic. Therefore, the role that adaptive immunity may play in the host response to implanted synthetic biomaterials has not been extensively studied. Cardinal features of adaptive immunity include specificity and T cell responses which are greater and more effective with up-regulation of activation receptors upon re-challenge. We compared th...
متن کاملSarcoidal Type Foreign Body Reaction: A Case Report
Sarcoidosis and foreign body reactions are common differential diagnoses of skin granuloma formation. We report a 40 year –old man with sarcoid type granulomas containing polarized foreign materials, and also bilateral hilar adenopathy. It appears that detection of foreign bodies in histopatologic studies of granulomas does not necessarily exclude the possibility of sarcoidosis.
متن کاملInvasive Intraneural Interfaces: Foreign Body Reaction Issues
Intraneural interfaces are stimulation/registration devices designed to couple the peripheral nervous system (PNS) with the environment. Over the last years, their use has increased in a wide range of applications, such as the control of a new generation of neural-interfaced prostheses. At present, the success of this technology is limited by an electrical impedance increase, due to an inflamma...

متن کاملBIOMATERIALS AND THE FOREIGN BODY REACTION: SURFACE CHEMISTRY DEPENDENT MACROPHAGE ADHESION, FUSION, APOPTOSIS, AND CYTOKINE PRODUCTION by
by Jacqueline Ann Jones The foreign body reaction has proven to be a hindrance to the functionality of implanted biomedical devices. The ability to direct this reaction, inflammation, and wound healing via the material-dependent control of key cellular components, macrophages and foreign body giant cells (FBGCs), is vital to the development of future biomedical devices. This dissertation addres...
