چکیده

The sedimentary strata were sampled in the lesser Himalayas to probe paleoenvironmental changes across Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) boundary eastern Tethys. study provides an integrated lithologic and bio-sequence stratigraphic analysis, leading paleoecology interpretations. planktic foraminiferal limestone of late Cretaceous is overlain by lateritic sandstones sandy limestones, latter being Paleocene age. Though deposition cretaceous mainly occurred transgressive high stand system tracts, top marked type-I sequence low tract, corresponding Hangu Formation. Deposits below K-Pg zone interval have been correlated Cenomanian Rotalipora reichel biozone early Campanian Globotruncana ventricosa zone, with absence Maastrichtian fauna. A change fauna above has observed manifested presence larger benthic foraminifera such as Lockhartia Davies, 1932 Globanomalina Haque, 1956 genera. occurs at contrasting inter-facial contact two rock units advocates lowered sea-levels or dead ocean model. An organic bed Turonian-early Coniacian corresponds probable OAE3 could represent a missing link Pakistani domain. Prior event Indo-Eurasian collision, influx siliciclastics suggests major episode uplift shortening caused ophiolite obduction magmatic upwelling during Campanian. subsequent erosion its re-deposition shaped platform, evolving it from relatively steeper ramp geometry gentler epeiric Selandian Thanetian, triggered shallow facies. similar nature erosional phase whole region but duration was prolonged section upper limit some regional changes. As finding this study, “Nara Sandstone Member” Kawagarh Formation Hazara area earlier workers be revised

Facies, sedimentary environments and sequence stratigraphy of Cretaceous deposits in the northwest of Azerbaijan, Iran

The Cretaceous deposits in Morakan, located in the northeast of Khoy, a town in western Azerbaijan province, Iran, are primarily made up of carbonate rocks. These deposits, which are of 717 meters thick, lie on the clastic facies of Jurassic and are covered with beneath the pelagic beds of the Upper Cretaceous. To investigate the facies, sedimentary environment and sequential stratigraphy of th...

Geology of Hettangian to Middle Eocene Rocks of Hazara and Kashmir Basins, Northwest Lesser Himalayas, Pakistan

-The Mesozoic to Eocene sedimentary succession of Hazara Basin dominated by carbonates is characterized by a distinct package of sediments punctuated by a number of diastems, hiatus and unconformities. The Hazara Basin evolved in Hettangian with the development of lagoonal to upper shoreface conditions on the northern margin of northward flying India. It was followed by a thick pile of middle J...

Sequence stratigraphy and depositional environment of the Oligocene deposits at Firozabad section, southwest of Iran based on microfacies analysis

The Asmari Formation was deposited in the foreland basin of southwest Iran (Zagros Basin). Carbonate sequences of the Asmari Formation consist mainly of large benthic foraminifera along with other skeletal and non-skeletal components. Three assemblage zones have been recognized by distribution of these large foraminifera in the study area that indicate Oligocene age (Rupelian-Chattian). Absence...

Facies Analysis and Sequence Stratigraphy of CRP-2/2A, Victoria Land Basin, Antarctica

The Oligocene to Quaternary succession encountered in CRP-2/2A is divided into twelve recurrent lithofacies (some of which have been subdivided further), reflecting a range of marine, glacimarine and possibly subglacial environments of sediment accumulation. A cyclical vertical arrangement of lithofacies was noted throughout the core, and is used as the basis for a sequence stratigraphic analys...

Depositional History and Sequence Stratigraphy of the Tirgan Formation (Barremian – Aptian) in the Zavin section, NE Iran

The Tirgan Formation (Barremian – Aptian) is exposed in the Kopet Dagh in northeast Iran. One stratigraphic section in Zavin was measured with a thickness of 110 meters. This Formation in section consists of three parts (including lower carbonate, limy shale – marl and upper carbonate rocks). Based on the study of 94 thin sections, 10 carbonate and 2 siliciclastic lithofacies have been identifi...
