چکیده

This study aimed to investigate the natural feeding behavior of Nile tilapia in Lake Langeno, Ethiopia, with emphasis on potential spatial, size and seasonal effects ingested food items. biology O. niloticus was conducted from March 2016to February 2017. Fish samples were collected monthly six different sampling sites using mesh sizes gillnets. A total 610 fish specimens full stomachs considered for assessment biology. In total, seven items, namely phytoplankton, zooplankton, insects, detritus, macrophytes, parts nematodes, identified stomach contents. Phytoplankton most commonly consumed prey, followed by zooplankton macrophytes. The other items occasionally randomly consumed. detritus dominant prey dry season, macrophytes main during wet months. contribution insects slightly highest small-sized groups (<10 cm), whereas larger-size (>20 cm) (p < 0.05). present results point a concurrence relative importance dietary at individual level, species level among sites. primary item, which indicates specialist strategy lake. Generally, plant origin, typically associated less protein content than animal origin dominated contents tilapia. pattern Langeno shifts aspects that might warrant further view aquaculture applications as well climate change.

Visual communication stimulates reproduction in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.).

Reproductive fish behavior is affected by male-female interactions that stimulate physiological responses such as hormonal release and gonad development. During male-female interactions, visual and chemical communication can modulate fish reproduction. The aim of the present study was to test the effect of visual and chemical male-female interaction on the gonad development and reproductive beh...

Behaviours Associated with Acoustic Communication in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

BACKGROUND Sound production is widespread among fishes and accompanies many social interactions. The literature reports twenty-nine cichlid species known to produce sounds during aggressive and courtship displays, but the precise range in behavioural contexts is unclear. This study aims to describe the various Oreochromis niloticus behaviours that are associated with sound production in order t...

Charaterisation of Salmonella Isolated from Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) along Lake Victoria Beaches in Western Kenya

Foodborne Salmonella infections have become a major problem world wide. Salmonellosis transmitted from fish are quite common. Established quality control measures exist for export oriented fish, none exists for fish consumed locally. This study aimed at characterization of Salmonella isolated from Nile tilapia . The study was carried out in selected beaches along L. Victoria in Western Kenya be...

Human Streptococcus agalactiae Isolate in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

Streptococcus agalactiae, the Lancefield group B streptococcus (GBS) long recognized as a mammalian pathogen, is an emerging concern with regard to fish. We show that a GBS serotype Ia multilocus sequence type ST-7 isolate from a clinical case of human neonatal meningitis caused disease and death in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

Metacercarial Infection of Wild Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from Brazil

Fingerlings of Oreochromis niloticus collected in an artificial urban lake from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, were evaluated for natural infection with trematodes. Morphological taxonomic identification of four fluke species was performed in O. niloticus examined, and the total prevalence of metacercariae was 60.7% (37/61). Centrocestus formosanus, a heterophyid found in the gills, was ...
