Flow discharge measurement by a linear width contraction device

Abstract In this paper, the outflow process of a linear width contraction device for free-flow condition is modeled using dimensional analysis and incomplete self-similarity condition. The proposed theoretical stage-discharge relationship tested measurements available in literature. power equation characterized by value exponent close to 2 coefficient depending on angle sides with channel bank. flume simple construction, easy installation, low cost, good accuracy measured discharge (errors estimate ranging from − 3.84 1.9%). deduced errors lower than or equal ± 3% 93.7% investigated cases. main result paper giving an accurate but, at same time, having advantage working regardless estimate.
