Flow Characteristics of Drag-Reducing Surfactant Solutions

The objective of this study is to clarify the flow characteristics drag-reducing and elucidate mechanism underlying phenomenon. surfactant counter ion we used were Lipothoquad O/12 sodium salicylate, respectively. drag reduction rate ( DR %) was measured by using a recirculating system with diameter 25.6 mm. We also solutions different concentrations temperatures particle image velocimetry (PIV). From experimental results, % at an average velocity 2.0 m/s increased from 0 68% as temperature 10 40 °C constant concentration (300 mg/L). contour plot obtained PIV, found that thickness lower-velocity region near pipe wall thick 20 °C, whereas vortex motions seemed controlled 30 °C. On other hand, thickened 25°C. Even if same level effects occurred, patterns quite depending on temperature.
