Hydrodynamics Analysis of Density Currents
Density Current is formed when a fluid with heavier density than the surrounding fluid flows down an inclined bed. These types of flows are common in nature and can be produced by; salinity, temperature inhomogeneities, or suspended particles of silt and clay. Driven by the density difference between inflow and clear water in reservoirs, density current plunges clear water and moves towards a d...
متن کاملMixing in gravity currents
We study entrainment in lock-release gravity currents using highly spatially resolved optical transmission experiments and quantitative analysis of the available potential energy of the flow. The principal results provide a resolution to the debate regarding the mechanism and degree of mixing in the head of a gravity current during the slumping phase. The nature of the complex internal mixing s...
متن کاملA Study of Flow and Mixing in Bubbly Gas-Liquid Pipe Flow Generated by a Grid
The spreading of a tracer in a bubbly two-phase grid-generated turbulent flow system is studied. In this work both particle image velocimetry (PIV) and planer laser-induced <span style="font-size: 10pt...
متن کاملMixing properties of induced random transformations
Let S(N) be a random walk on a countable abelian group G which acts on a probability space E by measure–preserving transformations (Tv)v∈G. For any Λ ⊂ E we consider the random return time τ at which TS(τ) ∈ Λ. We show that the corresponding induced skew product transformation is K–mixing whenever a natural subgroup of G acts ergodically on E.
متن کاملMixing properties of steady flow in thermocapillary driven droplets
We consider mixing via chaotic advection in microdroplets suspended at the free surface of a liquid substrate and driven along a straight line using the thermocapillary effect. With the help of a model derived by Grigoriev Phys. Fluids 17, 033601 2005 we show that the mixing properties of the flow inside the droplet can vary dramatically as a function of the physical properties of the fluids an...
