Flow and Bed Conditions Jointly Control Debris‐Flow Erosion and Bulking

چکیده
Debris flows can grow greatly in size and hazardous potential by eroding bed bank materials. However, erosion mechanisms are poorly understood because debris complex hybrids between a fluid flow moving mass of colliding particles, erodibility varies events, field measurements hard to obtain. Here, we identify the key controls on debris-flow based data set that combines information properties, conditions, erosion. We show conditions wetness jointly control Flow describing cumulative forces exerted at during an event best explain Shear particle-impact strongly correlated act conjunction process. Erosion of a granular bed driven by laminar fluid flow
Motivated by examples of erosive incision of channels in sand, we investigate the motion of individual grains in a granular bed driven by a laminar fluid to give us new insights into the relationship between hydrodynamic stress and surface granular flow. A closed cell of rectangular cross-section is partially filled with glass beads and a constant fluid flux Q flows through the cell. The refrac...
متن کاملRill Erosion on Compost Blankets under Concentrated Flow Conditions
A flume study was conducted using a soil, yard waste compost, and an erosion control compost to investigate the response to concentrated flow and determine if the shear stress model could be used to describe the response. Yard waste compost (YWC) and the bare Cecil soil (CS) control responded to concentrated laboratory runoff similarly in rill formation, and the shear stress model was useful in...
متن کاملCritical conditions of bed sediment entrainment due to debris flow
The present study describes entrainment characteristics of bed material into debris flow, based on flume tests, numerical and dimensional analyses. Flume tests are conducted to investigate influences of bed sediment size on erosion rate by supplying debris flows having unsaturated sediment concentration over erodible beds. Experimental results show that the erosion rate decreases monotonically ...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Bed and Structural Slopes on Bed Shear Stress and Flow Characteristics around an Impermeable Groyne
In this paper, effects of the cross shore and groyne wall slopes on flow parameters around an impermeable groyne were considered using a three-dimensional numerical CFD model (i.e., FLUENT). The k-ε turbulence model was used to evaluate the Reynolds stresses. The model was first applied to a vertical groyne on a flat bed and the model results were compared with the relevant experimental data. T...
متن کاملSignificance of settling model structures and parameter subsets in modelling WWTPs under wet-weather flow and filamentous bulking conditions.
Current research focuses on predicting and mitigating the impacts of high hydraulic loadings on centralized wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) under wet-weather conditions. The maximum permissible inflow to WWTPs depends not only on the settleability of activated sludge in secondary settling tanks (SSTs) but also on the hydraulic behaviour of SSTs. The present study investigates the impacts of...
