Floristic study on some selected paddy fields of Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala

Agricultural landscapes have attracted increasing attention in connection with the general rise of concern about conservation biodiversity. The predominant agricultural land use throughout Asia is paddy farming for monoculture cultivation rice. Few studies examined plant biodiversity fields. Even though subjected to repeated human disturbance, many species persist within landscape. present study was undertaken understand this unique ecosystem by assessing floristic richness fields after harvesting rice before area located Thiruvananthapuram District Kerala. A total ten were randomly selected and five quadrants (1 m x 1 m) also from each field. 44 observed belonging 41 genera 22 families Poaceae being dominant family. Flora on field proper, bunds ditch different. natives dicots out numbered exotics monocots respectively, a gradual increase April July. All recorded economocally important. reveals great diversity herbaceous plants area. Recent shows that wetlands are under more extreme pressure. Threats may be natural, manmade or both. Moreover, practices influenced composition. relation between vegetation makes an important contribution understanding biological ecosystems. Further recommended understood develop measures conservation.
