چکیده

Abstract The floristic composition, diversity, and conservation status of woody plant species in Ethiopia are determined this study. Data on vegetation collected using a systematic random sampling method from 45 20 m × (400m 2 ) plots laid every 100 along four parallel transect lines running south to north. Flora Eritrea identification key (Volume I–VIII) is used identify the scientific names all species. Shannon–Wiener diversity index calculate whereas Sorensen's similarity coefficient assess similarities differences among communities. studied forest contains 44 29 families 40 genera. Fabaceae most dominant family, followed by Rubiaceae Combretaceae . In terms habit, consisted 30 (68.2%) trees 14 (31.8%) shrubs. two frequent Syzygium guineense (51.11%) Maytenus gracilipes (46.66%). Three community types identified Agglomerative Hierarchical Cluster Analysis. Most ( Calpurnia aurea-Combretum molle observed type two. study generally limited Therefore, thorough investigation species' population structure, regeneration status, ecological aspects recommended.

Coffee landscapes as refugia for native woody biodiversity as forest loss continues in southwest Ethiopia

Land-use changes threaten biodiversity and ecosystem services. Some of the last remaining forest fragments in Ethiopia, and the world’s only habitats that retain genetically diverse wild Arabica coffee populations, have experienced rapid recent conversion to coffee farms, plantations and agricultural fields. We examined patterns of remnant woody plant diversity in the remaining forests, and ass...

Floristic Composition and Structure of the Dry Afromontane Forest at Bale Mountains National Park, Ethiopia

The floristic composition and structure of the Dry Afromontane Forest at Bale Mountains National Park was studied from July 2003 to June 2004. A total of 90 plots were established at three sites (Adelle, Boditi and Gaysay) at an altitudinal range of 3010–3410 m. The cover abundance values, density, and diameter at breast height and list of species were recorded in each plot. About 230 species b...

Drought stress and tropical forest woody seedlings: effect on community structure and composition

1 We hypothesized that severe drought affects the structure of tropical forests by favouring seedlings of some species or groups at the expense of others. To test this hypothesis, we irrigated naturally occurring woody seedlings during an El Niño-related drought in seasonal moist tropical forest on Barro Colorado Island, Panama. We predicted that irrigated plots would retain greater species ric...
