Flocculation Performance of Industrial Sugarcane Juice by Acrylamide-Based Anionic Flocculant

Despite the widespread use of ionic polymer flocculants in sugar refineries, there is still insufficient knowledge on relationship between properties and efficiency flocculation. This paper describes performance poly(sodium acrylate-co-acrylamide) (poly(SA-co-AAm)) as an anionic flocculant flocculation–coagulation sugarcane juice from factory Gempolkrep PTPN X Mojokerto. Poly(SA-co-AAm) was successfully prepared via free radical polymerization sodium acrylate acrylamide with respective molar ratios 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, compared commercial Accofloc. It found that mud height decreased increasing SA:AAm ratio. However, increase observed further Furthermore, dosage did not induce any significant change pH. The total dissolved solids (TDS) significantly when ratio acrylate:acrylamide changed 40:60 to whereas a 60:40 increased TDS value again. also noticed tendency turbidity consistent value. These results demonstrate poly(SA-co-AAm) feasible alternative owing its good optimum 50:50.
