Over the years, multi-agent systems (MAS) technologies have shown their usefulness in creating distributed applications focused on autonomous intelligent processes. For this purpose, many frameworks for supporting been developed, normally oriented towards a particular type of agent architecture (e.g., reactive or deliberative agents). It is common, example, platform BDI (Belief, Desire, Intention) model to provide exclusively. In most existing platforms, it possible develop either behavior-based agents based cycle, but not both. sense, there clear lack flexibility when need perform part decision-making process according paradigm and, parallel, require some other behaviors that do such deliberation process. context, paper proposes introduction an called Flexible Agent Architecture (FAA) supports development systems, where each can define its actions terms different computational models (BDI, procedural, neural networks, etc.) as behaviors, and combine these necessary order achieve goals. The FAA has integrated into real platform, SPADE, thus extending original capabilities featuring reactive, deliberative, hybrid agents. integration also adapted facilities SPADE all types inside agents, coordination by using presence notification mechanism, which unique feature SPADE. resulting middleware used implement case study simulated robotics scenario, paper.
