Fixed-Bed Studies of Landfill Leachate Treatment Using Chitosan-Coated Carbon Composite

چکیده
The feasibility of a chitosan-coated coconut-shell (CS) carbon composite for landfill leachate treatment in fixed-bed study was investigated terms COD and NH3-N removal. surface the characterized using SEM, FT-IR, XRD to assess any changes before after column operations. To enhance its cost-effectiveness, saturated regenerated NaOH. results showed that had significantly better removal both NH3-N, as compared CS and/or chitosan (p ≤ 0.05; ANOVA test), respectively. breakthrough curve obtained from studies exhibited an ideal “S” shape. points adsorbents followed order at BV 76 < 200 305. It also found low flow rate deeper bed depth packed adsorbent were necessary achieving optimal achieved 96% regeneration first cycle. However, even with enhanced adsorption target pollutants by through coating, treated effluents still could not meet required effluent limits less than 5 mg/L, respectively, mandated legislation. Nonetheless, findings suggest low-cost composites derived unused resources can be employed effective wastewater treatment.

Treatment of Landfill Leachate by Constructed Wetlands: Three Case Studies
The performance of three constructed wetland systems treating landfill leachate, two located in northern Poland (Szadółki near Gdańsk and Gatka near Miastko) and one in southern Sweden (Örebro), is discussed. The CWs differ in size, hydraulic regime, type of hydrophytic plants, and type of leachate pre-treatment before discharging to the CW. The CW in Szadółki consists of two parallel beds with...

Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) have been employed to degrade biorefractory organic matters. This study investigates the combination of classical Fenton reaction with electrochemical oxidation, the electro-Fenton process, for the treatment of semi aerobic landfill leachate, collected from Pulau Burung Landfill Site (PBLS), Penang, Malaysia. The investigation has been carried out in batch re...

متن کاملAerobic biological treatment of landfill leachate
There is an ongoing need to treat leachates from landfills using approaches that avoid expensive installation and operating costs. Faced with such a problem, Powys County Council (Wales, UK) developed a treatment system based on practical experience. Leachate was re-circulated through aeration towers containing a biofilm supported on plastic media before being polished in reed/filter beds. Inve...
متن کاملTreatment of Landfill Leachate by Anammox Process
In most cases, the anammox process is used for nitrogen removal from reject water coming from dewatering of digested sludge. However, there are more industrial streams suitable for treatment by partial nitritation/anammox process. The landfill leachate may be a good example of such wastewater. Generally, landfilling is the most used solution for treatment of urban solid wastes. The problem with...
