Five New Hot Jupiter Transits Investigated with Swift-UVOT

چکیده

Abstract Short-wavelength exoplanet transit measurements have been used to probe mass loss in atmospheres. We present the Swift-UVOT light curves for five hot Jupiters orbiting UV-bright F-type stars: XO-3, KELT-3, WASP-3, WASP-62, and HAT-P-6. report one positive detection of XO-3b marginal KELT-3b. place upper limits on remaining three depths. The planetary radii derived from NUV depths both potential detections are 50%–100% larger than their optical radius measurements. examine ratio R / opt trends as a function estimated mass-loss rate, which we derive X-ray luminosity obtained Swift-XRT or, case XMM-Newton. find no correlation between energy-limited photoevaporative rate ratio. also search based equilibrium temperature Jupiters. possible indication transition around T eq = 1700 K, analogous found NIR water features transmission spectra. This might be explained by formation extended cloud decks with silicate particles ≤1 μ m. demonstrate that filters could sensitive absorption aerosols

Swift Uvot Detection of Grb 050318

We present observations of GRB 050318 by the Ultraviolet /Optical Telescope (UVOT) on board the Swift observatory. The data are the first detections of a gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglow decay by the UVOT instrument, launched specifically to open a new window on these transient sources. We showcase UVOT’s ability to provide multicolor photometry and the advantages of combining UVOT data with sim...

Optical/UV afterglows: Swift UVOT overview.

The ultraviolet and optical telescope (UVOT) on Swift provides coverage of gamma-ray bursts and their afterglows in the 170-650 nm band, yielding multiwavelength data of considerable diagnostic power in conjunction with the Swift X-ray Telescope. The results from the first eighteen months of operation show a broad range of afterglow behaviour, with considerably more complexity in many bursts th...

Prompt Optical Observations of Grb 050319 with the Swift Uvot

The UVOT telescope on the Swift observatory has detected optical afterglow emission from GRB 050319. The flux declined with a power-law slope of 1⁄4 0:57 between the start of observations some 230 s after the burst onset (90 s after the burst trigger) until it faded below the sensitivity threshold of the instrument after 5 ; 10 s. There is no evidence for the rapidly declining component in the ...

Five New Transits of the Super-Neptune HD 149026b

We present new photometry of HD 149026 spanning five transits of its “superNeptune” planet. In combination with previous data, we improve upon the determination of the planet-to-star radius ratio: Rp/R⋆ = 0.0491 +0.0018 −0.0005 . We find the planetary radius to be 0.71± 0.05 RJup, in accordance with previous theoretical models invoking a high metal abundance for the planet. The limiting error i...
