Composition and distribution of lipids in tissues of bogue (Boops boops).
Total lipids from liver, head, skin and muscle of Bogue were separately isolated and their composition was investigated by a combination of analytical determinations, and column and thin layer chromatography. The major components of the neutral lipid fractions from all tissues studied were triglycerides, followed by cholesterol. The triglyceride fraction of skin and head contains significant am...
متن کاملChanges in the Amino Acid Composition of Bogue (Boops boops) Fish during Storage at Different Temperatures by 1H-NMR Spectroscopy
Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was employed to obtain information about the changes occurring in Bogue (Boops boops) fish during storage. For this purpose, (1)H-NMR spectra were recorded at 600 MHz on trichloroacetic acid extracts of fish flesh stored over a 15 days period both at 4 °C and on ice. Such spectra allowed the identification and quantification of amino acids, together with ...
متن کاملHigh levels of microplastic ingestion by the semipelagic fish bogue Boops boops (L.) around the Balearic Islands.
For the first time this study reports on the presence of microplastics (1 nm to <5 mm) in the gastrointestinal tracts of small semipelagic fish (Boops boops) in the Balearic Islands (Mediterranean Sea) from March to May 2014. The results show microplastic ingestion in 68% of full stomach samples with an average of 3.75 items per fish. Only filament type microplastics were observed in B. boops f...
متن کاملHalfway up the trophic chain: development of parasite communities in the sparid fish Boops boops.
We examined the patterns of composition and structure of parasite communities in the Mediterranean sparid fish Boops boops along a gradient of fish sizes, using a large sample from a single population. We tested the hypothesis that species forming the core of the bogue parasite fauna (i.e. species which have a wide geographical range and are responsible for recognizable community structure) app...
متن کاملFirst report of a swordfish (Xiphias gladius Linnaeus, 1758) beneath open-sea farming cages in the Western Mediterranean Sea
An adult swordfish (Xiphias gladius L.) was reported for the first time at coastal Mediterranean fish-farm facilities. This record highlights the necessity to assess the potential ecological changes to wild fish assemblages caused by coastal farming activity, especially to this type of endangered large migratory fish predator, which could be taken into account in future management strategies.
