FISH and chips: chromosomal analysis on microfluidic platforms.
Interphase fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) is a sensitive diagnostic tool used for the detection of alterations in the genome on cell-by-cell basis. However, the cost-per-test and the technical complexity of current FISH protocols have slowed its widespread utilisation in clinical settings. For many cancers, the lack of a cost-effective and informative diagnostic method has compromise...
متن کاملFish in chips: an automated microfluidic device to study drug dynamics in vivo using zebrafish embryos.
Interference of the Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway by cyclopamine leads to abnormal embryonic development. We monitor this dynamical drug effect in zebrafish embryos with highly precise microenvironment control using an integrated microfluidic device. This chip-based platform, which is programmable and automated, greatly facilitates the accuracy and reproducibility of the in vivo assays.
متن کاملElectrophoretic separations on microfluidic chips.
This review presents a brief outline and novel developments of electrophoretic separation in microfluidic chips. Distinct characteristics of microchip electrophoresis (MCE) are discussed first, in which sample injection plug, joule heat, channel turn, surface adsorption and modification are introduced, and some successful strategies and recognized conclusions are also included. Important achiev...
متن کاملAutomated Quality Inspection of Microfluidic Chips Using Morphologic Techniques
We apply morphological image processing for quality inspection of microfluidic chips. Based on a comparison of measured topographies with design data, we provide a coherent solution to four central tasks in the quality assessment of injection moulded polymer devices: determination of channel depth, identification of burrs, calculation of transcription accuracy, and detection of defective region...
متن کاملSingle-Cell Chemical Lysis on Microfluidic Chips with Arrays of Microwells
Many conventional biochemical assays are performed using populations of cells to determine their quantitative biomolecular profiles. However, population averages do not reflect actual physiological processes in individual cells, which occur either on short time scales or nonsynchronously. Therefore, accurate analysis at the single-cell level has become a highly attractive tool for investigating...
