چکیده

We report a case of male corpse colonization found inside residence in the municipality Areia, Paraíba, Brazil. The body was gaseous stage decomposition and colonized by fly larvae. reared larvae collected at crime scene on temperature-controlled. supplied beef as feeding substrate for until adult emergence to allow taxonomic identification. Three specimens Peckia (Squamatodes) ingens emerged laboratory. Thus, we present first record flesh-fly (S.) colonizing human Neotropical region, updating list species with forensic potential. In addition, information total time development implications these findings consolidation entomology Northeast region were discussed.

Cytogenetics of the neotropical flesh fly Pattonella intermutans (Diptera, Sarcophagidae)

Flies of the family Sarcophagidae are extremely common insects of worldwide distribution. These flies have an extensive variety of alimentary habits during the larval phase, the most common of which involves animal carcasses (James, 1947). Most reports on the Sarcophagidae deal with their medical importance and role in the degradation of the carrion larval substrate (Cornaby, 1974; James, 1947;...

Serine protease activities in Oxysarcodexia thornax (Walker) (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) first instar larva.

We report for the first time the expression of multiple protease activities in the first instar larva (L1) of the flesh fly Oxysarcodexia thornax (Walker). Zymographic analysis of homogenates from freshly obtained L1 revealed a complex proteolytic profile ranging from 21.5 to 136 kDa. Although some activities were detected at pH 3.5 and 5.5, the optimum pH for most of the proteolytic activities...

Revision of the New World genus Peckia Roniveau-Desvoidy (Diptera: Sarcophagidae).

The New World and largely Neotropical genus Peckia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 is revised with a key to all species. Peckia is considered a senior synonym of Guanoxipha Lehrer, 2012, n. syn. and of Sarcodexia Townsend, 1892, n. syn., the first one under Squamatodes Curran and the latter maintained as a valid subgenus, which here is redefined giving the new generic combinations Peckia (Sarcodexia) l...

The Potential Uses of Sarcosaprophagous Flesh Flies and Blowflies for the Evaluation of the Regeneration and Conservation of Forest Clearings: A Case Study in the Amazon Forest

The level of association between dipterans of the families Calliphoridae and Sarcophagidae and habitats with different levels of vegetation cover was analyzed at Porto Urucu in Coari, Amazonas, Brazil, with the aim of identifying the potential of these taxa as bioindicators for the assessment of forest regeneration and conservation. The flies were collected in 16 sample areas, 12 of which were ...

Scanning electron microscopy of third-instar sarcophagid (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) recovered from a mummified human corpse in Thailand.

The third-instar of an unidentified sarcophagid, recovered from a mummified body of a 32-yr-old Thai male was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Although the morphological features of this larva are similar to the other sarcophagid larvae, some features could be helpful for species identification, which is a basic requirement for estimation of postmortem interval in forensic inv...
