Simple model of first-order phase transition
One-dimensional model of a system where first-order phase transition occurs is examined in the present paper. It is shown that basic properties of the phenomenon, such as a well defined temperature of transition, are caused both by existence of a border between the phases and the fact that only in the vicinity of that border it is possible for molecules to change their phase. Not only the model...
متن کاملFirst order phase transition in a model of quasicrystals
We introduce a family of two-dimensional lattice models of quasicrystals, using a range of square hard cores together with a soft interaction based on an aperiodic tiling set. Along a low temperature isotherm we find, by Monte Carlo simulation, a first order phase transition between disordered and quasicrystalline phases. متن کاملFirst Order Phase Transition in a Model for Generalised Statistics
A first order phase transition is found in a model which was introduced originally by Murthy and Shankar [Phys. Rev. B 60, 6517 (1999)] to describe systems of generalised exclusion statistics. I characterise the phase transition in the canonical and grandcanonical ensebles for the case when the statistical exclusion parameter is 1, which corresponds to the Fermi exclusion statistics. We observe...
متن کاملA first-order Mott transition in LixCoO2.
Despite many years of experimental searches for a first-order Mott transition in crystalline-doped semiconductors, none have been found. Extensive experimental work has characterized a first-order metal-insulator transition in Li(x)CoO(2), the classic material for rechargeable Li batteries, with a metallic state for x < 0.75 and insulating for x > 0.95. Using density functional theory calculati...
متن کاملFirst-order transition in the ginzburg-landau model
The d-dimensional complex Ginzburg-Landau (GL) model is solved according to a variational method by separating phase and amplitude. The GL transition becomes first order for high superfluid density because of phase fluctuations. We discuss its origin with various arguments showing that, in particular for d = 3, the validity of our approach lies precisely in the first-order domain.
