چکیده
Clouds cover more than two-thirds of the earth’s surface and play a dominant role in energy water cycle our planet. Cirrus clouds are high-level composed mostly ice crystals affect radiation allocation mainly by absorbing outgoing longwave reflecting solar radiation. This study presents characterization cirrus observed on 10 11 April 2019 using ground-based University Zululand (UZ) light detection ranging (lidar) for first time. Dense with an average thickness ~1.5 km at height range 9.5–12 were UZ lidar. The lidar observation agreed Cloud–Aerosol Lidar Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) observation.

Mie LIDAR Observations of Tropospheric Aerosol over Wuhan
Wuhan is a rapidly developing large city in central China. To analyze the aerosol characteristics over Wuhan, the optical properties of the nocturnal aerosol layers in the lower troposphere were observed using a ground-based LIDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) located in the Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LIESMARS) from Wuhan University, China (11...
متن کاملFirst Lidar Observations of Middle Atmosphere Temperatures, Fe Densities, and Polar Mesospheric Clouds Over the North and South Poles
An Fe Boltzmann temperature lidar was used to obtain the first measurements of middle atmosphere temperatures, Fe densities, and polar mesospheric louds (PMCs) over the North and South Poles during the 1999-2000 summer seasons. The measured temperature structure of the mesopause and lower thermosphere regions in mid-summer at both Poles is consistent with the MSIS90 model. The density profiles ...
متن کاملOptical and geometrical characteristics of cirrus clouds over a Southern European lidar station
Optical and geometrical characteristics of cirrus clouds over Thessaloniki, Greece (40.6 N, 22.9 E) have been determined from the analysis of lidar and radiosonde measurements performed during the period from 2000 to 2006. Cirrus clouds are generally observed in a mid-altitude region ranging from 8.6 to 13 km, with mid-cloud temperatures in the range from −65 to −38C. The cloud thickness genera...
متن کاملLong-term trend analysis and climatology of tropical cirrus clouds using 16 years of lidar data set over Southern India
Sixteen-year (1998–2013) climatology of cirrus clouds and their macrophysical (base height, top height and geometrical thickness) and optical properties (cloud optical thickness) observed using a ground-based lidar over Gadanki (13.5 N, 79.2 E), India, is presented. The climatology obtained from the ground-based lidar is compared with the climatology obtained from 7 and a half years (June 2006–...
