چکیده

The crayfish plague pathogen Aphanomyces astaci is one of the main factors responsible for decline in European and Asian native species. This was transported to these regions through its natural carriers, North American species, which were introduced during last century. Since then, carrier species have spread worldwide due globalization highly invasive nature In Europe, five been categorized as high-risk they are loss provisioning services, endangers freshwater ecosystems. red swamp Procambarus clarkii , particular, currently most concerning threatens biodiversity ecosystems worldwide. this study, we describe first detection A. an population P. Investigation of ornamental crayfish reveals new carrier species of the crayfish plague pathogen (Aphanomyces astaci)

Several North American crayfish species have so far been identified as carriers of the crayfish plague agent Aphanomyces astaci. The pathogen is responsible for the declines of thousands of European crayfish populations. Currently, one of the introduction pathways of North American crayfish species is the aquarium trade which may sometimes be followed by intentional release or unintentional esc...

Invasive Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) transmits crayfish plague pathogen (Aphanomyces astaci)

The Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) is a vector of the fatal crayfish plague pathogen (Aphanomyces astaci). Both species are listed among the world ́s 100 worst invasive species. From its origin in China the Chinese mitten crab was introduced to Europe, presumably via ballast water from ships. A. astaci originated in North America and is assumed to have been firstly introduced to Europe...

Resistance to the crayfish plague, Aphanomyces astaci (Oomycota) in the endangered freshwater crayfish species, Austropotamobius pallipes

The pathogen Aphanomyces astaci Schikora 1906 is responsible for the decline of the native crayfish species of Europe, and their current endangered status. This pathogenic species is native to North America and only colonizes aquatic decapods. The North American crayfish species have a high resistance to this pathogen, while species from other regions are highly susceptible. However, recent fie...

Prevalence of the Crayfish Plague Pathogen Aphanomyces astaci in Populations of the Signal Crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus in France: Evaluating the Threat to Native Crayfish

Aphanomyces astaci, the crayfish plague pathogen, first appeared in Europe in the mid-19(th) century and is still responsible for mass mortalities of native European crayfish. The spread of this parasite across the continent is especially facilitated by invasive North American crayfish species that serve as its reservoir. In France, multiple cases of native crayfish mortalities have been sugges...

A quantitative TaqMan MGB real-time polymerase chain reaction based assay for detection of the causative agent of crayfish plague Aphanomyces astaci.

Here we present the development and first validation of a TaqMan minor groove binder (MGB) real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method for quantitative and highly specific detection of Aphanomyces astaci, the causative agent of crayfish plague. The assay specificity was experimentally assessed by testing against DNA representative of closely related oomycetes, and theoretically assessed...
