Firefighting: Challenges of Smart PPE

The continuous research and development regarding firefighters’ personal protective equipment (PPE) has led to significant improvements in recent decades. Despite the evolution of PPE, every year an undesirable number firefighters are seriously burned during firefighting operations, with some them eventually losing their lives. protection given by PPE can be further increased incorporation smart textiles equipment, namely, wearable electronics (i.e., integrated sensors monitor diverse parameters: heart rate, oxygen saturation, carbon dioxide detector, setting real-time communication a command post) advanced materials such as phase change (PCMs). been followed update international national standards that specify performance requirements for clothing structural wildland well technical rescue.
