Fire Occurrence in Hemi-Boreal Forests: Exploring Natural and Cultural Scots Pine Fire Regimes Using Dendrochronology in Lithuania

چکیده
Fire is an important natural disturbance and a driver of hemi-boreal forest successional trajectories, structural complexity, biodiversity. Understanding the historic fire regime step towards sustainable management. Focusing on Lithuania’s forests, we first mapped potential regimes based relationship between site conditions, vegetation, frequency using ASIO model. The model revealed that all categories (Absent, Seldom, Intermittent, Often) are found in Lithuania. Scots pine forests dominated often category (92%). Secondly, focusing fire-prone landscape, Dzūkija, analyzed occurrence types dendrochronological records. We sampled cross-dated 132 samples with scars from four dry stands (n = 92) peatland 40), respectively. In total, history analysis 455 213 events during period 1742–2019. Weibull median intervals were 2.7 years (range 1–34) for 6.3 1–27) types. Analysis pre- post-1950 showed interval increased 2.2 to 7.2 but decreased 6.2 5.2. A superposed epoch significant precipitation fluxes prior after 1950. Thus, Dzūkija landscape Lithuania has been strongly shaped by both human naturally induced fires. combination theory (the model) examination biological archives can be used help guide management emulate disturbances related fire. As traditional wood production eliminated fire, effectively simplified ecosystems, recommend introducing educational programs communicate benefits fires as well adaptive trials use low-intensity prescribed burning stands.

Modeling Anthropogenic Fire Occurrence in the Boreal Forest of China Using Logistic Regression and Random Forests
Frequent and intense anthropogenic fires present meaningful challenges to forest management in the boreal forest of China. Understanding the underlying drivers of human-caused fire occurrence is crucial for making effective and scientifically-based forest fire management plans. In this study, we applied logistic regression (LR) and Random Forests (RF) to identify important biophysical and anthr...

متن کاملScaling Rules and Probability Models for Surface Fire Regimes in Ponderosa Pine Forests
Statistical descriptors of the fire regime in ponderosa pine forests of the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico, are spatially scale-dependent. Thus, quantification of fire regimes must be undertaken in a spatially explicit framework. We apply a variety of analytical tests adapted from species-area relationships to demonstrate an analytical framework for understanding scaling of disturbance regimes. A ...
متن کاملClimatic influences on fire regimes in ponderosa pine forests of the Zuni Mountains, NM, USA
We characterized fire history and examined climate–fire relationships in dry ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) forests in the Zuni Mountains of northwestern New Mexico. Our findings indicate that the historical wildfire regime for the study area was typified by high-frequency, low-severity surface fires. Climate–wildfire relationships were assessed using both Superposed Epoch Analysis (SEA) and ...
متن کاملModelling Variable Fire Severity in Boreal Forests: Effects of Fire Intensity and Stand Structure
It is becoming clear that fires in boreal forests are not uniformly stand-replacing. On the contrary, marked variation in fire severity, measured as tree mortality, has been found both within and among individual fires. It is important to understand the conditions under which this variation can arise. We integrated forest sample plot data, tree allometries and historical forest fire records wit...
