Fintech, bank funding, and economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa

The emergence of financial technology (Fintech) has greatly impacted the landscape in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) recent years. impact on bank funding and economic growth region cannot be ignored. This paper examines extent to which Fintech affected by utilizing data from 56 banks across 19 SSA economies between 2010 2020. analysis was conducted using a covariance-based structural equation modeling method. results show that disruptions have triggered an increase equity for banks, while having negligible effects deposit long-term debt financing. study also outlines Fintech’s limited size within system ultimately restricted its SSA. Furthermore, did not find evidence mediating via channel, suggesting banking systems are capable resisting stability. Overall, these findings highlight resilience structures disruptions, emphasizing importance prudent management continued investment sustained Africa. However, as continues evolve grow, policymakers should remain vigilant monitor region. By understanding implications SSA, this contributes ongoing discussion potential benefits challenges technological innovations sector.
