Decoherence in QED at finite temperature

We consider a wave packet of a charged particle passing through a cavity filled with photons at temperature T and investigate its localization and interference properties. It is shown that the wave packet becomes localized and the interference disappears with an exponential speed after a sufficiently long path through the cavity. Thermal Effects in Low-Temperature QED

QED is studied at low temperature (T ≪ m, where m is the electron mass) and zero chemical potential. By integrating out the electron field and the nonzero bosonic Matsubara modes, we construct an effective three-dimensional field theory that is valid at distances R ≫ 1/T . As applications, we reproduce the ring-improved free energy and calculate the Debye mass to order e.

Bloch - Nordsieck Thermometers : One - loop Exponentiation in Finite Temperature QED

We study the scattering of hard external particles in a heat bath in a real-time formalism for finite temperature QED. We investigate the distribution of the 4-momentum difference of initial and final hard particles in a fully covariant manner when the scale of the process, Q, is much larger than the temperature, T. Our computations are valid for all T subject to this constraint. We exponentiat...

QED effective action at finite temperature and density.

The QED effective action at finite temperature and density is calculated to all orders in an external homogeneous and time-independent magnetic field in the weak coupling limit. The free energy, obtained explicitly, exhibit the expected de Haas – van Alphen oscillations. An effective coupling at finite temperature and density is derived in a closed form and is compared with renormalization grou...
