Finite similitude in fracture mechanics

چکیده

Scaled experimentation can potentially provide significant benefits such as reduced costs materials and time in testing but is afflicted by the phenomena of scale effects, where behaviour at be markedly different to that full size. The design scaled experiments presently predominantly founded on theory dimensional analysis, which itself grounded invariance dimensionless governing equations with scale. reality fracture mechanics however not invariant equations, deviations it evident scaled-fracture related are limited this affliction. This paper examines an advance a new approach called finite similitude. key question addressed here whether possible overcome affliction effects performing one two scales. It shown similitude (unlike analysis) able capture all forms dependency, opens up possibility selecting alternative consequently First-order investigated applied cracked compact-tension three-point bending test specimens along pressure vessel illustrate concepts. These case studies reveal veracity potential highlight possibilities hitherto would have been deemed impossible circumvention (as traditionally defined).

Fracture Mechanics Analysis of Fourth Lumbar Vertebra in Method of Finite Element Analysis

Objective: In this paper, finite element model of the L4 vertebra subjected to combination of compression and flexion loading in isotropic and anisotropic cases is investigated. Methods: In both cases, the vertebra is considered homogeneous. Also, the body of vertebra is divided to cancellous and cortical sections in anisotropic model, but the process is assumed isotropic such as isotropic mode...

A novel modification of decouple scaled boundary finite element method in fracture mechanics problems

In fracture mechanics and failure analysis, cracked media energy and consequently stress intensity factors (SIFs) play a crucial and significant role. Based on linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM), the SIFs and energy of cracked media may be estimated. This study presents the novel modification of decoupled scaled boundary finite element method (DSBFEM) to model cracked media. In this metho...

Finite Fracture Mechanics of Matrix Microcracking in Composites

The first form of damage in composite laminates is often matrix microcracks that are defined as intralaminar or ply cracks across the thickness of the ply and parallel to the fibers in that ply (see reviews in [1,2]). Tensile loading, fatigue loading, environment, and thermal cycling can all lead to microcrack formation. Microcracks can form in any ply that has a significant component of the ap...

[Proceeding] Crack deflection in brittle materials by Finite Fracture Mechanics

During their operation, modern aircraft engine components are subjected to increasingly demanding operating conditions, especially the high pressure turbine (HPT) blades. Such conditions cause these parts to undergo different types of time-dependent degradation, one of which is creep. A model using the finite element method (FEM) was developed, in order to be able to predict the creep behaviour...
