Finite-Element Analysis of Adjacent Concrete Box Girders Transversely Post-Tensioned at the Top Flanges Only

چکیده

A three-dimensional non-linear finite-element model (FEM) was constructed using a commercial software (ATENA-Studio) to investigate the transverse load distribution behavior of adjacent precast prestressed concrete box-girder bridges. An innovative connection between box girders used, where post-tensioning applied at top flanges only eliminating need for intermediate diaphragms. The FEM validated in terms deflections, strains, cracking and ultimate loads against experimental results previously reported by authors. then used perform parametric study investigating influence adding topping, location, bridge width on newly developed connection. demonstrated efficiency topping limiting mid-span deflections up 25%. Additionally, maximum live moment factors (LLMDFs) different locations widths were evaluated.

Flexural Strengthening of Deficient Reinforced Concrete Beams with Post-Tensioned Carbon Composites using Finite Element Modelling

The application of external post-tensioned steel bars as an effective way to strengthen an existing bridge has been so far used in many different countries. In recent decades, however, they have been replaced by bars made from Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), as a material with high tensile strength and corrosion resistance, to address several concerns with steel bars such as their appli...

Post-Tensioned Steel Connections Self-Centering Behavior Using the Finite Element Method

Due to lack of the proper and well behavior of steel moment-resisting connections subjected to the great and major earthquakes, excessive researches have been conducted to mitigate the damages on the primary elements and connections. Therefore, elimination of residual drift and increasing the plastic rotation capacity for the connectors in the panel zone are required. The main purpose of this s...

Nonlinear Models of Reinforced and Post-tensioned Concrete Beams

Commercial finite element software generally includes dedicated numerical models for the nonlinear response of concrete under loading. These models usually include a smeared crack analogy to account for the relatively poor tensile strength of concrete, a plasticity algorithm to facilitate concrete crushing in compression regions and a method of specifying the amount, the distribution and the or...

Precast, Pretensioned, Post-Tensioned Concrete for Bridge Decks

The problem of concrete bridge deck deterioration on many of our newer as well as older bridges is severe, somewhat perplexing as to cause, and difficult to solve. Furthermore, the cost to highway agencies for their repair, and the cost of delay to the highway user, can be extremely large. The use of precast, prestressed concrete for bridge decks is a con cept of construction or reconstruction...

Construction Condition and Damage Monitoring of Post-Tensioned PSC Girders Using Embedded Sensors

The potential for monitoring the construction of post-tensioned concrete beams and detecting damage to the beams under loading conditions was investigated through an experimental program. First, embedded sensors were investigated that could measure pre-stress from the fabrication process to a failure condition. Four types of sensors were installed on a steel frame, and the applicability and the...
