چکیده
We report an unusual in-field behaviour of SrEr _2 2 O _4 />4 for a magnetic field applied along two high-symmetry directions, the and c axes. This geometrically frustrated magnet hosts crystallographically inequivalent Er ions, Er1 Er2, that are both located on triangular zigzag ladders, but only one site, Er1, forms long-range order at low temperatures in zero field. follow sequence peculiar induced states with detailed single-crystal magnetisation neutron diffraction experiments. On application external display="inline">c axis, antiferromagnetic ions is rapidly destroyed replaced, fields between 2 5 kOe, by state shorter-range correlations. The change correlation length coincides fast increase during metamagnetic transition above which reestablished maintained into high fields. high-field ferromagnet-like characterised significantly different moments sites, site dominating process. For parallel to range 4 12 planes diffuse scattering observed due one-dimensional correlations Er2 replaced much more localised still features corresponding establishment up-up-down structure associated one-third plateau. Above 14 following another phase transition. this direction field, dictate succession transitions while remain less polarised. High field properties of geometrically frustrated magnets
Above the saturation field, geometrically frustrated quantum antiferromagnets have dispersionless low-energy branches of excitations corresponding to localized spin-flip modes. Transition into a partially magnetized state occurs via condensation of an infinite number of degrees of freedom. The ground state below the phase transition is a magnon crystal, which breaks only translational symmetry ...
متن کاملCompeting spin phases in geometrically frustrated magnetic molecules.
We identify a class of zero-dimensional classical and quantum Heisenberg spin systems exhibiting anomalous behavior in an external magnetic field B similar to that found for the geometrically frustrated kagome lattice of classical spins. Our calculations for the isotropic Heisenberg model show the emergence of a pronounced minimum in the differential susceptibility dM/dB at B(sat)/3 as the temp...

Geometrically frustrated magnetic molecules have attracted a lot of interest in the field of molecular magnetism as well as frustrated Heisenberg antiferromagnets. In this article we demonstrate how an approximate diagonalization scheme can be used in order to obtain thermodynamic and spectroscopic information about frustrated magnetic molecules. To this end we theoretically investigate an anti...

1.1 Introduction This chapter is intended to give an introduction to the theory of thermal fluctuations and their consequences for static and dynamic correlations in geometrically frustrated antiferromagnets, focusing on the semiclassical limit, and to discuss how our theoretical understanding leads to an explanation of some of the main observed properties of these systems. A central theme will...
متن کاملAbsence of magnetic order in Yb3Ga5O12: relation between phase transition and entropy in geometrically frustrated materials.
From muon spin relaxation spectroscopy experiments, we show that the sharp peak (lambda-type anomaly) detected by specific heat measurements at 54 mK for the ytterbium gallium garnet compound, Yb3Ga5O12, does not correspond to the onset of a magnetic phase transition, but to a pronounced building up of dynamical magnetic pair correlations. Beside the lambda anomaly, a broad hump is observed at ...
