چکیده

We present a new approach for producing elastomeric optical fibers with an behaviour corresponding to few-mode fiber. Different have been produced by first fabricating thermoplastic polyurethane preforms and subsequently drawing them. The fiber attenuation has measured the cut-back technique bending transmission tolerance evaluated. potential assessed through two basic experiments in order highlight benefits of elasticity reduced core diameter. Future proposed is discussed shows very auspicious path towards unexplored applications.

Rayleigh scattering in few-mode optical fibers

The extremely low loss of silica fibers has enabled the telecommunication revolution, but single-mode fiber-optic communication systems have been driven to their capacity limits. As a means to overcome this capacity crunch, space-division multiplexing (SDM) using few-mode fibers (FMF) has been proposed and demonstrated. In single-mode optical fibers, Rayleigh scattering serves as the dominant m...

Variable optical attenuator and dynamic mode group equalizer for few mode fibers.

Variable optical attenuation (VOA) for three-mode fiber is experimentally presented, utilizing an amplitude spatial light modulator (SLM), achieving up to -28dB uniform attenuation for all modes. Using the ability to spatially vary the attenuation distribution with the SLM, we also achieve up to 10dB differential attenuation between the fiber's two supported mode group (LP₀₁ and LP₁₁). The spat...

Long distance transmission in few-mode fibers.

Using multimode fibers for long-haul transmission is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. In particular few-mode fibers (FMFs) are demonstrated as a good compromise since they are sufficiently resistant to mode coupling compared to standard multimode fibers but they still can have large core diameters compared to single-mode fibers. As a result these fibers can have significantly less nonl...

Exploiting few mode-fibers for optical time-stretch confocal microscopy in the short near-infrared window.

Dispersive fiber is well-regarded as the most viable candidate for realizing efficient optical time-stretch process--an ultrafast spectroscopic measurement technique based on the wavelength-to-time mapping via group velocity dispersion (GVD). Despite optical time-stretch has been anticipated to benefit a wide range of high-throughput biomedical diagnoses, the lack of commercially-available disp...

Phase-velocity measurements using prism output coupling for single- and few-mode optical fibers.

A measurement technique based on evanescent coupling between guided fiber modes and radiation modes in a bulk medium is described. Modal phase velocities have been measured to an accuracy of better than 0.01%. Direct measurement of modal beat lengths and cutoff wavelengths are also possible. For a step-index fiber, refractive indices for the core and cladding were determined to an accuracy of 1...
